Flagship Showdown: Xiaomi Mi Vs. Samsung Galaxy For Premium Device Seekers. – The Xiaomi Mi 9T and Samsung A80 are more similar than it first appears. Sure, the looks of the phones are nothing, but they are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780 chipset. This makes for an interesting matchup, because

Price difference. The Xiaomi Mi 9T comes for RM 1199, while the Samsung A80 comes for RM 2499, making it quite expensive for a “mid-range” device.

The first thing we get is the basis of most purchasing decisions How much money does it cost? As I said before, Samsung A80 comes for RM 2499, Xiaomi Mi 9T is RM 1199. So that’s a RM 1300 difference, and that’s a very big difference, especially when the basic specs, the processor, are the same. They’re both equipped with a Snapdragon 730, so they’re both capable of running the same games, apps, and basically anything else, pretty much the same.

While the A80 may seem like a more ‘premium’ phone, the Xiaomi Mi 9T makes up for it with the price you get with the phone. The A80 can barely count as a ‘mid-tier’ device, and its appeal is aimed at a different market than the Mi 9T. I’m always for affordable, yet capable devices, and this is where the Mi 9T wins over the A80.

The phones are quite different in terms of design. The A80 feels a bit more industrial and follows the same dual design and form factor, minus their rotating camera. The Xiaomi Mi 9T, on the other hand, as I mentioned earlier, is pretty eye-catching. The curved dynamic back creates a unique, and good-looking design, not to mention the weight/height difference of these devices.

The Xiaomi Mi 9T comes across as a sleek, cool-looking device due to its proportions. The Samsung A80 looks a little better

For lack of a better term. It’s very similar to their previous A Series lineup, and nothing new or exciting in terms of aesthetics and design.

The Mi 9T has a 6.39″ AMOLED FHD display while the Samsung A80 has a 6.7″ Super AMOLED FHD+ display. However, the Mi 9T has a slightly higher pixel per inch density (PPI) than the A80. The Mi 9T comes in at a 403 PPI density, while the A80 has a 393 PPI density and that means the higher the PPI, the fewer pixels you see on the screen. And that means a higher PPI means a lot more detail. Although we’ve reached a point where you can’t see individual pixels with the naked eye, the Mi 9T beats the A80 in this regard.

Now of course this is a matter of personal preference, but I like my devices in a smaller form factor and that’s exactly what you get with the Mi 9T. Considering you still get a full-view display for the pop-up cam, it’s still a nice, attractive screen. Not to mention Sunshine Mode 2.0, Reading Mode 2.0, and what Xiaomi has implemented on their screens to create an overall better viewing experience. Although the A80 seems more powerful, and looks better on paper, does it justify the +RM 1000 price tag over the Mi 9T?

Oh and on a side note, the Mi 9T has a headphone jack, while the A80 gives you a USB dongle for wired headsets. So, it’s something to think about.

The Samsung A80 is definitely a bit ridiculous, but has come up with a simple solution to the difference between the selfie cam and the rear cam. Just rotate it. And also, they have 48.0 MP, 8.0 MP ultra-wide camera and a 3D depth camera. So basically there are 2 usable cameras, as the 3D depth camera is basically only for live focus video. This is a good idea because your selfie cam is as powerful and reliable as the rear cam

The Mi 9T features a 20MP front pop-up camera, and an AI rear triple camera setup with a 48MP main shooter, an 8MP telephoto camera, and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera. I mean, you can sort of say that the Xiaomi Mi 9T has a bit more to offer in terms of range and sensors. Also, what if the A80’s rotation mechanism breaks? You are then basically out of a selfie and rear camera. So you have to think about all these new innovations for camera technology. How durable they really are, and how fragile they can be. Xiaomi has come out and said it is capable of 300,000 ‘pop-ups’. So some of that.

And for the main topic of discussion, we’re back to what really makes these two devices similar, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 processor. So with that, you have to see what value they can add to the already powerful processor. The Mi 9T comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, with a 128GB option also available. Samsung’s A80 comes with 8GB of RAM along with 128GB of internal storage, so this is where the A80 steps up and brings you better, faster performance.

Neither of them have external storage capacity, so that’s what you get. The 128GB version of the Mi 9T comes in at RM 1399, so you can have almost the same experience and still pay a lot less than the RM 2499 for the A80. However, if you consider daily usage, 6GB of RAM is still powerful enough to get you through the day, as long as you’re constantly switching between apps and multitasking. But it’s a simple enough problem to solve no matter how old you are

Another thing to consider when it comes to smartphones these days is battery life. The A80 has a 3700mAh battery, while the Mi 9T has a 4000mAh battery. The Mi 9T wins here, especially for the price you’re paying to get a 4000mAh battery. You can get through the day with medium-heavy usage and that’s pretty good quality for a smartphone these days.

Honor View20 Vs Oneplus 6t

The real winner at this point is you, the consumer. Both are great phones, but at the end of the day, you have to consider what you’re really looking for. The A80 is an attractive package, offering some revolutionary camera technology, a good display, high storage. and RAM, but for RM 2499. The Xiaomi Mi 9T has the same Snapdragon 730 chipset, a bigger battery, better camera, for less than RM 1000. That being said, for me, the Mi 9T wins on overall value, features and an attractive design and aesthetics.

While the iPhone 15 Pro Max is powered by Apple’s new A17 Pro Bionic chip, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Both chips are very fast and offer excellent performance.

Although the Apple A17 Pro Bionic chipset is a beast based on the 3nm manufacturing process it will be able to beat the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Because the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 posted better results than the A16 Bionic chipset that powered the iPhone 14 Pro Max last year.
